Castlemara Play Area – Carrickfergus – Mid & East Antrim Borough Council 2022

The playground at Castlemara Park was outdated and in need of refurbishment. The play park sits on a grassed public area adjacent to residential housing.  The design of the new playground reflects the local character of Carrickfergus Town.  The playground is positioned within the existing footprint, keeping the remaining pathways with new tarmac and wetpour surfacing.  The location of the equipment provides a good route for egress with wide disability access and a new self-closing gate.

The toddler items are positioned closest to the entrances, these include the inclusive dragon themed seesaw, ship rocker, wheelchair unit, and wheelchair roundabout, the inclusive hardness seat and basket swing are positioned close to the other gate for easy access.  The larger more challenging items are placed in the middle of the playground.  All activity panels are at wheelchair high, located throughout the playground.  The equipment caters for varying abilities and the inclusive pieces are integrated in the design so as children with disabilities can play alongside their peers.
